Egg Corns

An eggcorn is what happens when someone tries to use a word or expression that they've heard, but never seen written down. The name comes from someone calling an acorn an "eggcorn." You can learn more here. I will be posting eggcorns, mangled idioms, and other examples of language that make me laugh or make my head hurt.

Observed today: "Utmost" with an intended meaning of "at most"

ECDB has an entry for “upmost” replacing the correct word “utmost,” but this is a bit different. Maybe a schwa sound problem?

My prom consisted of taking a million pictures before the dance, staying at the dance for utmost an hour, and then slyly drinking in the back of a limo….
